The Grodan 6-phases model

The grower’s need for structured cropping information increases with additional insight into cultivation know-how, development of cropping systems, and increases in scale. Grodan wants to satisfy this need and has found the following solution: cultivation on substrate can be split in 6 phases to make a kind of blueprint, the so-called Grodan 6-phases model.

The Grodan 6-phases model is meant as a basis for achieving the best possible cropping result, in the first instance for the phase in question, but ultimately it will benefit the whole crop. The model briefly describes each cropping phase. Each phase is characterized by a certain stage of crop development and needs advice geared to the prevailing conditions, focussing on crop climate and root environment.

The Grodan 6-phases model is intended for vegetable crops and can be used in many different ways because the model shows the specific requirements per phase. It provides more clarity when the grower has to select the substrate for a certain crop. But you can also use the Grodan 6-phases model to easily adjust the irrigation strategy (slab specific) on the basis of the growth phase. And it is also possible to use the model when you establish plant load schemes, temperature strategies, fertiliser schemes, CO2- and lighting levels.

Before each new phase begins you will receive a new cropping advice by e-mail. The advice is built around the structure of the Grodan 6-phases model.
