9) I often hear people talking about ‘capillarity.’ What does that mean? Stone wool slabs not only need to absorb enough water; they also need to distribute it throughout the entire volume of the slab. Grodan stone wool has been specially developed to ensure for compliance with both requirements. A slab that allowed the water to sink to the bottom immediately would develop dry or salty regions – regions in which the roots will not grow, thereby decreasing the effective rooting volume of the slab. A high ‘capillarity’ (distribution of the water) ensures the steerability of the entire volume of the slab, as a result of which roots can develop throughout the whole slab. Back to FAQ's
